My father would not buy me a coloring book because he did not want me to color within the lines. Today I thank him.
I discovered textiles and sewing when I took a home economics class in 8th grade. I enjoyed it so much that I considered becoming a home economics teacher. That same year I discovered dance! I had a friend who took dance classes and I asked her to teach me. I paid her 50 cents a lesson.
When I started college many classes were offered and I found my passion for choreographing, directing, and I graduated with a degree in dance and a minor in drama.
I started teaching at Monte Vista High School in Danville, California and built the dance program. I stayed at that job for many years and it became my life’s work my passion. With an old industrial Elna sewing, machine in hand I sewed curtains, costumes, and did alterations. After teaching finding textile arts and quilting became my new “dance program”. I found something to wake me up at night and day dream about during the day.
It is so exciting to sew out of the lines and see these projects emerge.
